A Short History of Chiropractic Care
Results Chiropractic fully believes in the positive benefits of chiropractic care. This age-old practice focuses on manual manipulation of the spine. This practice can be found in ancient Greek and Chinese cultures. A lot of the ancient practices were done to heal and cure a variety of different ailments, including more than just the spine.
The more recent versions of chiropractic care start in 1895 when Dr. D. D. Palmer performed a spinal adjustment to his partially deaf patient, Harvey Lillard. After the adjustment, Harvey Lillard noticed his hearing started to improve. Palmer came to believe that spinal adjustment can heal and cure a number of ailments because the spine interacts with so many different nerves.
After treating Harvey Lillard, Dr. Palmer opened the first chiropractic college in Davenport, Iowa. The college was known as the Palmer School of Chiropractic and is in operation today. Chiropractic therapy still focuses mainly on the manual techniques to treat spinal disorders.

How Does Chiropractic Care Work?
Chiropractic care focuses on a holistic approach. This is accomplished by exercise, adjustments, a healthy diet and other self-healing properties that the body can activate. Depending on the specific problem, a chiropractor can offer pain relief through a series of appointments and most patients experience relief soon after several treatments. Results Chiropractic focuses on providing you relief of your pain by treating the root of the problem. This means that you can live pain free without having long term treatment that requires you to come to the office regularly.
Why Chiropractic Care?
Many modern pain management techniques used today treat the symptoms of the problem and not the root cause. Results Chiropractic focuses on finding the source of the issue and treat it effectively. This is different than traditional medicines but offers effective results. This makes chiropractors great in preventative care from further pain and injuries. Chiropractic care is non-invasive (no drugs or surgery required) and has less risks than other procedures that can be performed. Using your body’s natural ability to heal, chiropractic care helps heal your injuries and get rid of pain. Patients who see chiropractors regularly report a decrease in pain but an overall improvement in their overall wellness.
What are the Effects of Chiropractic Care?
Many modern medical practices administer drugs to treat pain and other ailments. Prescribed drugs can result in dangerous and undesirable side effects. Many of the drugs prescribed are hard on your kidneys and liver if used for too long. At Results Chiropractic, we focus on finding and treating the source of your problems.
CHIROPRACTIC MYTHS AND FACTS
You have probably heard a lot of different things about chiropractic care. Most of them usually come from individuals who are unfamiliar or uneducated with the chiropractic care.
- Spinal Adjustment are Painful
Many patients find relief immediately after their first initial spinal adjustment. Others find relief after several adjustments and exercises. When a spine is misaligned it causes pain in the neck, back and other parts of the body. Once the spine is aligned properly, the pain is usually removed.
- Chiropractors are not real doctors
Chiropractors go under a rigorous course of education. Undergraduate studies are required and then several more years of specified training is required. After training, chiropractors must also complete clinical hours under the eye of a licensed chiropractor. Similar to medical doctors, chiropractors are tested and registered with the state board and become licensed. All schools chiropractors attend are accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Chiropractic is Costly
Western medical care can be expensive and chiropractic care is usually less expensive and actually gets to the root of the problem. Because the problem is being taken care of, patients spend less time in treatment than they would with traditional medicine.
- You don’t need to visit a chiropractor, you can adjust yourself
- You Can Just Do It Yourself
Trying to adjust your spine on your own is dangerous and isn’t very effective. Chiropractors spend a lot of time becoming educated on the spine and how it relates to the rest of the body. It is best to consult a licensed chiropractor for any adjustments that need to be made.
